We had a special visitor.....

Image
We were EXTREMELY excited when we heard bells at 11am! We knew it wasn't the
end of lunchtime! It was SANTA!

He brought us some presents for us and the
class.

Thank you very much to everyone in the PTA we loved having Santa.

:)

Merry Christmas everyone. Xx

Maths morning in Year 1

We had a whole morning of Maths on Thursday. We had great fun making cookies, playdough, weighing presents and making castles. As well as making a Paper Bag Princess dress.

Look at some of the things we have done. :)

Share, read and play sessions- RRS

Many thanks to all those parents who came along to these sessions. Make
sure you are using the resources we have made to support your child's
phonics learning at home. Sessions will continue after the Christmas
holidays.

Christmas craft sessions

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Christmas craft sessions.

Please practise this song for our Christmas sharing assembly

More measuring.

Image
We made some doll dresses today. Measured them and one group even added a belt! We are fashion designers in the making. Well done, Lime Class.

Phonics

Image
Please keep practising reading and the phonemes in your child's reading records.
Alien words are taught so your child learns to blend correctly and are able to use all 44 phonemes. There is a basic and advanced code going onto the Phonics blog for you to use at home.
Remember phonics and reading has to be FUN! Read lots of different books and record them in the reading journal. You do not have to just read school books alone, your child's reading will flourish with a variety of books.
Also, remember Zero the Hero- from the 3rd November, your child will gain the bronze certificate if they have read 25 times. We will count this and record at school on a Thursday. It is 25 times read to at home, the children are very excited about this!

Please check the Phonics section of this blog for the video on pronunciation of phonemes. Alternatively, follow this link to watch it too! Please refer to the basic and advanced codes above as these are referred too.

Lime Class Christmas and Maths!

Image
Christmas has arrived in Lime Class and we have been making crowns and Christmas trees. We had to order strips of paper from the shortest to the longest to make the trees. We also had tomeasure our   heads and make a crown out of the paper on the table. We then decorated them.

Measuring

Image
In Literacy we have been reading about the Paper Bag Princess. We had a letter from Princess Elizabeth asking us to make every girl a Paper bag dress. We found some paper and measured the girls- we then used those measurements to make the dress. Have a look at what we did.

What questions would you ask the Paper bag princess?

Helping your child to read and write

Help your child with their reading and writing Did you know that …
There are 26 letters of the alphabet but they make 44 sounds. It is essential that all our pupils know these sounds.  It will enable them to become confident readers and spellers.
The link below offers great support and advice for parents and children. It is vital that we teach the children the correct pronunciations. We are finding that the children have many misconceptions, and are making mistakes from reception right through to Year 6.
Please look at the link below with your child and listen to the pronunciations. You can make a big difference!

Please see your child’s class teacher if you have any questions or would like to learn more.

Love to Learn 28th November

English

This week we have been using adjectives to describe the Giant
from Jack and the Beanstalk. We used these adjectives to make a WANTED
poster. Can you make a WANTED poster for another fairy tale bad
character?

Maths

We have been finding the difference between 2
numbers this week. Make yourself some number cards. Choose 2 and try to
find the difference between the 2 numbers. For example, the difference
between 10 and 7 is 3. You can make the numbers as easy or as
challenging as you like. Record it in picture or a number sentence.

Have fun!

Parent Stay, Play and Share sessions-RRS

Thank you so much to all of you that attended the sessions! See you on Friday for the craft sessions if you can attend (from 2:30pm). See you next Monday for another FANTASTIC phonics and reading session.

Don't forget to check out the phonics tab of this blog for lots of information AND games to play at home.
Thanks for all of your support.

Finding the difference.

Image
We have been working really hard this week to learn that finding the difference means that we take away (subtract). We havebeen listening to Miss Bennett when she gives us 2 numbers to find the difference between, wehaveturned them into a number sentence and then used numberlines, fingers, cubes and drawings to help us to work out the answers. We are VERY good at this. Try a few yourself!
What is the difference between 12and 5?
What is the difference between 7 and 4?
What is the difference between 20 and 9?
